Violin Instruction

Welcome to passionate, professional instruction in violin performance!  The joy of this instructor is to offer a personal approach to developing the fine artist, cultivating sensitivity to beauty and grace in sound and encouraging emotive expression with a high technical standard.  Repertoire is creatively planned, and lessons are personally designed to meet the unique requirements of each musician. 

 

Following the Florida State Music Teachers Association Proficiency Guidelines, each intermediate/advanced student experiences structured traditional study which can include:

  • Suzuki repertoire, music theory, technique training
  • Classical and Romantic repertoire as well as jazz, fiddle, contemporary styles
  • Partner and group lessons, performance classes, ensemble playing
  • Recitals and other public performance

Professionally certified by the Florida State Board of Education, and in association with the Central Florida and Gainesville Music Teachers Associations, Linda Weltner Studio has been actively performing since l982.  Students have successfully participated in National Federation of Music Clubs festivals, the acclaimed Spotlight On Youth production, the Alachua County Youth Orchestra, GMTA annual recitals, and community festivals.  Ms. Weltner is a regularly requested adjudicator for the FSMTA District Solo Concerto Competition, Alachua County Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition and the Dorothy Reaves String Award.

She served on the faculty of Central Florida Community College, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with High Honors in Music Education, and completed performance requirements for the Master of Music degree in Violin Performance, highlighted by a master class with Ida Kavafian of the Beau Arts Trio.


History

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Ms. Weltner is a third generation musician; granddaughter of musicians from Chicago’s American Conservatory of Music, daughter of Boston University dean’s list pianist and organist. She began music study at an early age, and after two years was selected to perform a violin concerto with orchestra. Concertmaster of a ninety-piece orchestra, she was also awarded superior ratings in Wisconsin District and State solo performance competitions. Continuing her study in Florida, she was the recipient of numerous performance scholarships and accolades, and is a University of Florida College of Fine Arts alumna. Mentor collaborations have included Janna Lower, Associate Professor of Music, University of Florida; Max Huls, Jacksonville Symphony first violinist; Arthur Tabachnick, concertmaster, Florida Symphony, Orlando; and Olge Geyer, concertmaster, Tampa Chamber Orchestra; former concertmaster, Kiev Symphony, Russia.
